PurinaOne Smart Blend Sensitive Systems Dog Food uses salmon and some healthy grains, such as rice and oatmeal, to get this food off to a decent beginning. They also include vitamins and antioxidants to aid in a healthy immune system. Brewer’s rice is not a good choice for this particular food for sensitive tummies or for the second position on the ingredients list. It comes from the waste products of the brewing industry and has no nutritional value. In the second position on the list, it carries the second heaviest amount of weight of all.
This Sensitive Systems dog food becomes a big problem as we read on down the list. I don’t know why they would include corn gluten meal in a food for dogs with stomach issues. Many dogs are either allergic to, or just react badly to corn in any form.
Animal fat is a poor choice of fat in pet food. It comes from the rendering process, and you never know what might be in it.
Animal digest is just nasty! AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) defines it as: “it is material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolosis of clean and undecomposed animal tissue. The animal tissues used shall be exclusive of hair, horns, teeth, hooves and feathers, except in such trace amounts as might occur unavoidably in good factory practice and shall be suitable for animal feed.” It is a cooked down broth made from unspecified animals and could include 4-D animals (dead, diseased, dying or disabled), rancid restaurant grease, supermarket meat waste, (including the plastic packaging), and such. Who wants to willingly feed this to their pets?
It’s all good with this food! The company addressed the problem of dry, flaky skin that often appears with food allergies by using chicken fat in the formula. With all the extra vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, they seem to take care of all eventualities.
What is the little ditty from “Sesame Street?” “One of these things is not like the other…one of these things doesn’t belong….” This Precise® Lamb Meal & Rice Sensicare® Formula Dog Food is worthy of its name. The Purina One Sensitive Systems Dog Food – not so much. It’s quite obvious to me that the PurinaOne food doesn’t belong in the search for suitable dog foods for sensitive stomachs.
