The Honest Kitchen Issues Pet Food Recall

Here we go again….another pet food recall!  According to Food & Drug Administration press release, The Honest Kitchen is voluntarily recalling 5 lots of its Verve, Zeal, and Thrive pet food products because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The affected products were produced between August and November, 2012, and were sold nationwide in the United States and Canada through retail outlets, as well as by mail order and online.

The company chose to take this action after they learned that a supplier of one of the raw ingredients used in their products recalled a batch of human-grade parsley that might contain Salmonella.  Said batch of parsley was shipped to The Honest Kitchen in 2012 and used in the production of only the following 5 lots of finished products.

VERVE – code V4 + VR; production date – 8/20/2012; expiration date – 8/20/2013; 4 lb and 10 lb. boxes; LOT #2332A (batches 1-3.

VERVE – code VR; production date – 11/1/2012; expiration date – 11/1/2013; 10 lb. box; LOT# 3062A (batches 8 & 9)

THRIVE – code TM; production date – 9/18/2012; expiration date – 9/18/2013; l oz. sample; LOT# 2622A (batch 3)

ZEAL – code Z4 – ZR; production date – 8/14/2012; expiration date – 8/14/2013; 4 lb. and 10 lb. box;  LOT# 2272A (batches 1-5)

ZEAL –  code ZR; production date – 9/21/2012; expiration date – 9/21/2013; 10 lb. box; LOT# 2652A (batches 1-4)

The press release went on to say that The Honest Kitchen tests regularly for Salmonella and other pathogens as part of its quality control process.  They have not received any reports of illness associated with these lots of products listed above.

If you purchased any of the listed products, stop feeding it to your pets, remove the UPC (bar code) and lot code from the packaging, and discard the contents to a covered trash container.  You may receive a replacement or full refund of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the affected products, plus $1 to cover postage, by mailing the UPC and lot codes and a completed  reimbursement form (found on their website) to The Honest Kitchen, 145 14th St., San Diego, CA 92101, marked ATTN: Reimbursements.
