Recall: Salmonella Tainted Pet Treats in New Hampshire

September 12, 2013

New Hampshire Department of Health & Human Services has announced that Joey’s Chicken Jerky, a pet food treat, has sickened at least 21 people in 2 counties.  The treats implicated in spreading Salmonella have been recalled.  The treats were produced  by Kritter’s Kitchen Kreations.

If you have purchased Joey’s Chicken Jerky treats, discard them in a sealed container to prevent other animals from reaching them.

The treats were sold at the following stores:  America’s Pet in Hudson, NH; Blue Seal in Bow, NH; K9 Kaos in Dover, NH; Osborne’s Agway and Sandy’s Pet Food Center in Concord, NH; and The Yellow Dog Barn in Barrington, NH.

This voluntary recall emphasizes the need for pet owners to thoroughly wash their hands with soap and warm water after handling pet food, treats, dishes or toys.    Salmonella symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting – all within 72 hours of infection.  Remember that some animals may show signs of illness but some are just carriers and never show symptoms.  Exercise caution and protect your family and pets.
