Recalled dry dog foodNestle Purina Pet Care is voluntarily recalling a limited number of 3.5 lb. bags of Purina One beyond Our White Meat Chicken & Whole Barley Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food due to possible salmonella contamination.

The recalled bags are from one production run and carry the best by date of October, 2014.  The production code, found on the bottom of the bag, is 1780012679.

No other Purina products are included in the recall.  The recalled products were shipped to retailers across the United States.  Consumers who have purchased this product should discontinue feeding it to their dogs.

Dogs can become infected from eating contaminated food.  Humans could become infection by handling said food.  Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm/hot water after handling any pet food, treats, toys, supplies.

Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, fever and stomach pain. Pets can carry Salmonella bacteria and never actually become ill with it.

In researching this article, I found numerous complaints about various Purina pet foods but I didn’t see any on this particular product.  In general, I would stay away from Purina products and search for a healthier food.  Just my opinion.
