Recall: Good ‘N’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks Dog Treats

October 1, 2015

According to the Food & Drug Administration, the Salix Animal Health, LLC, announced a voluntary recall of one lot of Good ‘N’ Fun – Beefhide Chicken Sticks Dog Treats due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination.

These treats were distributed nationwide by Salix Animal Health to Dollar General and Dollar Tree retail stores.  The recalled products are packaged in 2.8 ounce bags stamped on the back side with lot # A015010 and contains an expiration date of 03/2018.  The UPC code is 0 91093 82247 1.

Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in animals include lethargy, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.  Some pets may showed decreased appetite and abdominal pain but not all.  Others may not show any symptoms and just be carriers of the infection.

Humans who become infected with Salmonella should watch for such symptoms as nausea and vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.  Should you suspect that you have been infected with the bacteria, seek medical help at once and do the same for your pet.

Persons with compromised immune systems may experience more serious symptoms and should always contact a doctor or medical professional.

No pet or human illnesses have been reported.  The potential for this contamination was found after routine testing by the Georgia Department of Agriculture showed that one 2.8 ounce package of Good ‘N’ Fun  Beefhide Chicken Sticks revealed the presence of Salmonella.

If you have purchased this product, contact the company at 800-338-4896, Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., EST for a refund.

Blue Buffalo has sent a letter stating they are not responsible for the illnesses their food has causes so many dogs .However I have heard many stories of other pets becoming terminally ill from Blue Buffalo. I was told two months ago that the damage done to my loving baby Buster has left his kidneys very weak. With his treatment and diet with special food ,I will be lucky if I have him for another year. Can someone tell me how to do a civil suit against this horrible company

Nancy, I’m so sorry to hear about your dog’s issues. I cannot give you advice about lawsuits. You should make an appointment with an attorney to discuss that. All we can do at this point is keep publicizing any related articles we find and make people aware of the problems and options. I have no idea if the FDA is doing anything about this Blue Buffalo issue, but I would suggest that you contact them and submit a report about your dog. Good luck! Carol
