Pumpkin Puppers Dog Treats

March 9, 2013

The more I read about the problems with pet treats imported from China, the more concerned I become.  While I do purchase some dog treats that say they are made in the United States, I still worry that some of the ingredients may be imported.  it just makes sense to me to bake  treats for Gator and Maggie in my own kitchen.

I created this recipe one day as I was baking a batch of basic dog cookies.  Since it only contains a few healthy ingredients, others may have their own versions.

2 ½ Cups Whole Wheat Flour

1 – large can Pumpkin (16 oz.)

½ Cup Nonfat Dry Milk

¼ Cup Fat-Free Canned Milk

Mix the first 3 ingredients.  Add the canned milk.  Add more flour as needed to get dough stiff enough to scoop out with a melon baller or use a spoon and drop onto a baking sheet about 1 inch apart.  Bake at 350 degrees for about 20-25 minutes.  Let them cool completely before storing in an airtight container.  Freeze the extras.
