Pro-Pet LLC Issues Voluntary Recall

February 6, 2014

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a voluntary recall of certain dog and cat foods from Pro-Pet LLC due to a potential for Salmonella poisoning.

Salmonella is a bacteria that causes illness in pets that eat an infected product and in humans who handle said infected products.  While many dogs and cats will experience nausea, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, fever and lethargy, some animals will be carriers, showing no symptoms of illness but able to infect others.

Humans who handle infected pet food or pet dishes or toys, etc, could become ill and if such symptoms as nausea, vomiting diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain or fever should occur, medical help should be sought at once.  In rare situations, Salmonella could result in serious problems for those with compromised immune systems.
