Natural Dog Food Recalled

March 13, 2013

If you feed Jones Natural Chews Woofers Dog Treats to your pet, you should know that the company is recalling 245 boxes of its product due to potential contamination with Salmonella.

This recall occurred because of results of a routine sampling program by the Colorado Department of Agriculture Feed Program which found that some finished products contained Salmonella bacteria.  The Woofers were distributed in Arizona, Colorado, California, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The following products were recalled:

Jones Natural Chews Co Woofers (beef patties) 1 pack shrink-wrap, 50-count box; Item UPC 741956008657, Lot 3102, Best by 11/05/15.

Jones Natural Chews Co Woofers (beef patties) 1 pack shrink-wrap, 50-count box, Item UPC 741956008183, Lot 2892BF, Best by 10/15/15, and Lot 3032ASL, Best by 10/29/15.

Salmonella bacteria can sicken both humans and pets.  Healthy people who become infected should watch for such symptoms as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.  In those with compromised immune systems, the illness could become more serious, so consult your medical professional, should you experience any of the above symptoms.

Dogs with Salmonella infections may exhibit similar symptoms, but some canines just carry the disease and could pass the bacteria to their humans.  Always wash your hands with soap and warm water after handling any pet food and after playing with your dog.

If you purchased the Rockford, IL, based company’s  recalled products, please return it to your place of purchase for a full refund.  With further questions, call the company at 877-481-2663, Monday – Friday, 8 – 4 , CST.
