Natura Expands Recall to Include All Dry Dog & Cat Products

April 20, 2013

On April 1, 2013, this site wrote about a voluntary expansion of a recall of dry pet foods produced by Natura Pet on a particular manufacturing facility line.  Now, the company has decided to recall ALL of the dry pet foods produced by Natura companies.  Also included in this latest voluntary recall is one cat pet treat.

Natura announced in a press release dated April 19, 2013, that “out of an abundance of caution, we are expanding our recall to include all Natura dry dog, cat, and ferret foods and treats that have expiration dates on or before March 24, 2014.  We are sorry for the disruption, but we simply want to ensure that every product meets our highest quality standards.”

Natura assures us that they are taking all precautions necessary to ensure that their products live up to expectations “both yours and ours.”  Their Fremont, Nebraska, plants is already shipping new product to stores that will soon be on shelves.

Products included in this latest recall are Innova; EVO; Healthwise; California Natural; and Karma.  This includes dry dog and cat food and treat varieties of these brands.  All expiration dates prior to and including March 24, 2014 are covered in this recall.

The Natura products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.  Tests conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Department of Agriculture confirmed the presence of Salmonella in some dry pet food and a cat pet treat.  No canned wet food or biscuits are included in this recall.

The recalled products are sold through select pet retailers and veterinary clinics throughout the United States and Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Costa Rica, as well as through online websites.

If you purchased any of these pet foods, dispose of them safely.  For product replacement or refund, call Natura at 1-800-224-6123, Monday – Friday, 8 – 5, CST.  This is the phone number listed on the company’s press release.  A different number was listed for Customer Service:  1-800-532-7261.

If you are unsure if your pet’s food is part of the recall, look for Natura Pet on the package or go to their website,, to see which brands are included.  Natura is part of Proctor & Gamble.
