Mars Petcare US, 2012 Recall

August 9, 2012

It is good to know that pet food manufacturers are on the ball when it comes to problems with their products.  In any business, problems occur, but it is how you deal with them that show class, character and real concern for the consumer.  When a company voluntarily recalls a certain dog or cat food, I commend them for taking the initiative to protect our animals.  A voluntary recall by the manufacturer lets consumers know that pet food safety controls are in place and being monitored.

On June 30, 2012, Mars Petcare US announced a voluntary recall of a limited range of Pedigree® brand of wet dog food.  Three varieties of Pedigree® Weight Management canned dog food were recalled due to a potential risk of choking.  The affected product may have contained small pieces of blue plastic which entered the food during production.  The following lot codes were recalled:

UPC:  2320034974 – Pedigree®+ Healthy Weight Premium Ground Entrée in Meaty Juices.

2310001914 – Pedigree® Weight Management Meaty Ground Dinner Beef & Liver in Meaty Juices.

2310023045 – Pedigree® Weight Management Meaty Ground Dinner Chicken & Rice in Meaty Juices.
