Fruit Cookie Treats for Fido

March 10, 2013

For a sweet treat for Fido, try this cookie using baby food fruit as the source of sweetness.

Fruit Cookies

1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1 Cup Oatmeal (uncooked)
½ Cup Wheat Germ
2 Jars Strained Baby Food Fruit – Blueberry; Applesauce; Peaches; Any Flavor

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Mix all ingredients together to form a stiff dough.  Add flour if mixture is too thin.  Add more baby food fruit or water if it is too stiff.

Roll out dough onto a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.  From here, you can use cookie cutters or a small glass and cut out rounds – whatever shape you prefer.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.  I prefer to use baking stones that are already treated, so I don’t have to bother with the extra paper.  Plus, the bottoms of the cookies won’t burn.

Place the cookies about an inch apart and bake for 20 – 30 minutes until light brown.  Loosen the cookies from the pan or stone and allow to cool in place.  Store in an airtight container or freeze in zip baggies.

When I shop, the check-out clerks often give me unusual looks at the baby food jars on the moving belt.  I’ve even been asked if I’m raising a grandbaby.  Of course, I reply, “Yes, he has 4 legs and fur.”  Gator has a sweet tooth and really loves these cookie treats.
