FDA Warning About Dog Treats

December 6, 2012

While this isn’t an actual recall, the Food & Drug Administration is warning pet owners NOT to feed Nature’s Deli Chicken Jerky Dog treats with lot code:  BESTBY061913DEN, to their pets.  They  may be contaminated with Salmonella.  These treats were made by and packaged by Kasel Associates Industries Inc. and were sold at Costco stores in the Denver, CO, area.

“Kasel has declined to perform a voluntary recall at this time,” but Costco is working with the FDA and has removed all of the affected products from their shelves.

The product is sold in 3 lb. packages and the packaging is yellow, blue, green and red with black and white writing.

The lot code may be found on the reverse side of the package.

The FDA has not received any reports of illness associated with these treats.  If you have this product with the affected lot code number, return it to your retailer for a refund or dispose of it in a sealed container so that no human or animal can reach it.

You may contact the FDA with questions at 240-276-9300.

Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after handling any pet products to avoid the possibility of contamination.
