Category Archives: Homemade Cat Treats

Because cats tend to be finicky eaters, it isn’t always easy to find treats they like. Many kitties, unfortunately, prefer cheaper, commercial treats over healthier ones. It’s sort of like humans preferring junk food over vegetables. Remedy that problem by providing Fluffy with special treats you make just for her – all healthy and all tasty.

Chicken Cat Cookies

If your cat is as picky as Lucy and Chico,  it isn’t easy to find treats they will eat.  Chico often sniffs at a treat and then walks away.  He prefers small bites of cheese or meat.  Lucy, my junk-food junkie, would only eat one brand of a commercial cat treat that contained ingredients I didn’t like.

Since I already spent time in the kitchen making special treats for my dogs, it seemed logical to do the same for the kitties.  There was a lot of trial and error before I found a few that pleased both of my fussy felines.  Chicken Cookies are one of their favorites.

Ingredients:

½ – ¾ Cup Whole Wheat Flour
½ Cup Non-Fat Powdered Milk
½ Cup Cooked Chicken, Chopped Into Small Pieces
1 Tbsp. Cod Liver Oil (You can substitute vegetable oil)
1 Egg, Beaten
¼ Cup Water

In a large bowl, mash the chicken.  Add the flour and dry milk and mix well.  Stir in the water, oil and eggs and mix well.  The mixture will be very sticky at this point.  Shape into ½ inch balls and place on a greased baking sheet or stone.  Press the balls with the back of a fork to flatten.

Bake in a 350 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

When I serve these treats to my cats, I break them into 4 pieces – two for each cat.
